Blockadia is a space of resistance that we’ve collectively opened — not necessarily confined to a single county or state — where we have found the footing to fight back in self-defense against the extraction industry’s attacks on our bodies and homes. In this fight we have been peppersprayed, ripped from each other’s grips, charged with multiple felonies, and held hostage by the State for ransoms they knew we could never pay by ourselves. All of their attempts to atomize and isolate us only proved to tighten our grips and welcome-back-embraces. Now as we go forward into their courtrooms and prisons, it is more important than ever for us to support the ones who risked their futures to defend our collective one.
This site is a space created by past and future prisoners of Blockadia to give updates about each other’s court proceedings, fund-raise for commissary funds, share stories and artwork from behind bars, and connect supporters on the outside with our loved ones on the inside. No amount of letters, donations, or Edward Abbey novels can truly remedy the isolation of being locked in a cage away from one’s community, but until the day we can realize a truly liberated society, we have a moral obligation to do everything in our ability to support them in their struggle as we continue ours.
“Your Honor, years ago I recognized my kinship with all living beings, and I made up my mind that I was not one bit better than the meanest on earth. I said then, and I say now, that while there is a lower class, I am in it, and while there is a criminal element I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free.”
